Signing off 2013!

Like any other, year 2013 is also getting over in the next few minutes, and what a year it was!
I never had such a rollarcaster year in my lifetime. A year which taught me the toughest life lessons which I wouldn't have understood otherwise.

Save money and and secure your future is a myth, someone has rightly said, "Paisa haat ka maiil hota hai"! I used to work in one of the leading media houses in the country, got a fixed salary and like any other person  was supposed to make a future in the media industry and get married.

For the longest time, I was confused about what I actually want out of my life. It was damm cool to have my employer name in my resume but did it actually gave me satisfaction, I didn't knew yet.

The stories of great men/women, their hardships and achievements have always inspired me. Its hard for me to count the number of times I have watched "Social Network" or read the entire series of Rashmi Bansal books(Stay hungry stay foolish, Connecting the dots, Poor little rich slum, Follow the rainbow) or admire Oprah winfrey and Richard Branson, needless to say it had a long lasting effect on me. The hidden desire to flash your card as "Bitch, I am the CEO(Mark Zuckerberg)" were make sound loud enough in my head to give me sleepless nights.

For the first few days, I thought I have gone crazy, I can't do something of my own. Doing big-big things are for big shots, that's what we usually think right? I checked my bank account, it barely had any savings! My salary was majorly spent on paying house rent and maintaining my daily life,It was hard for me establish  a company with the few thousands I could save.

The usual advice I could get from people around me "Save money, get married, raise kids then do whatever you want". My brain revolted, "Do you seriously want to save money and pursue your passion to become an Entrepreneur later in life? Today I am earning Rs. 1, tomorrow it will be Rs. 10, will it be that easy for me to quit my job then and start fresh knowing the handsome pay cheque I take home every month? What about the numerous risk evolved in entrepreneurship, who knows how the economy will be 10-15 years down the memory lane? How can I forget I am still an Indian girl who is expected to follow my husband's wishes and commands after marriage?! what if he doesn't agree? who knows what will happen then, I don't even know if I will be alive tomorrow?!

After spending crazy number of days and months brainstorming, I finally got the courage and decided "Screw it, lets do it!( quote and book by Richard Branson, Founder Virgin Group). That was the time when I founded my first startup "Streetseven.com" an e-store for lingerie was launched in January 2013. Too much of hard work, energy and wrong market study, the company boomed in few months!

Disappointment, Dejection and a sense of failure had grouped me in, a bleak future was staring right in my face. One of my mentor had told me once "Roli its easy to fail but much harder to bounce back! the real fight is to start it all over again and knowing you have already failed once. Failure will make you stronger and confident enough to beat the shit out of every tough situation or a "chicken", you will never think about it again in your lifetime.

It was one such day, while staring at the fan in my room and thinking about the reasons why I failed over a 100th time, I decided to take a break and go somewhere away and out of Bangalore. During my self exile-vacation, these random thoughts were passing my mind "What if I had a job which allows me to travel and  discover these unexplored destinations every single day", It would have been so nice! Travelling had been another hobby of mine.

Suddenly like that mentos advertisement, one bulb glow in my mind, "What If I convert this idea as to launch my second startup"? what if I failed once? I am not the first and last person afterall to fail on this earth, how difficult it would be to do so?

And that's how after planning and ideation for few months, its time for me to launch my second startup "NORTHEASTRVELLER",(earlier Travelcoholic) our quest to help travelers discover the amazing "seven sisters", northeast India.
Our destinations lie in these seven states with untouched beauty, vibrant culture, uncover ancient traditions, indulge in the local cuisine around a bonfire and discover centuries of civilization never known before to you.

At the stroke of midnight, as I introduce "Northeastraveller"(http://www.northeastraveller.com/) to you its my faith that Nothing is Impossible in this world except your determination and if there is will, there is definitely a way out!

Wishing you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Ciao!

That Rose girl!

I vaguely remember her face, she was a little girl of 11-12 years of age, shabby uncombed hair, a worned out frock to cover on her and she wore plastic chappals, I guess. I didn't know her name.

She was the girl everyone knew on Brigade road here in Bangalore. she used to sell Bundle of roses to the passersby. She was "The Rose girl".

She was there every evening, standing outside the Levis showroom, smiling  face as always with a bundle of rose in her hand. The roses were her bread and butter and she was a tiny Entreprenuer in true spirits. she very well knew how to sell her product.

I had came across her many times on Brigade road, she never asked me to buy roses from her. She never asked any girl to buy her roses. she catches the guys instead. she will very sweetly held the guys hand and say "Bhaiya ye roses apni girlfriend ke liye le lo"! It used to be an embarrassing situation for the guy, either the girl is his "girlfriend or girlfriend in making" and he had to buy roses to impress her. at times the guy used to refuse once or twice but they eventually gave in. how can somebody say  "No" to such a cute little girl, the roses weren't expensive and she had perfectly played the "girlfriend card"! Masterstroke!Girls loved the sight of the rose girl, they secretly wished their guys buy roses for them(we all love rose, choclates and  gifts isn't it?!) Rose girl was the secret cupid for many of the buding romances.

I don't see her nowadays. not sure where did she disappear or what happened to her. Everytime I pass brigade road-Levis showroom pavement it reminds me of her. The sight of The Rose girl was a delight for many passerby by.It was a matter of fact that she had a hard life, I always wondered about her story. I knew it wasn't a happy one orelse she wouldn't been here. I have no idea where is she today or what happened to her. Ours is a big bad world and she was a tiny little girl.I hope she grew up as a beautiful young girl, full of energy and her life is as smooth as it can get. That rose girl!

Mind your errrr... Blouse!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/No-designer-blouses-jeans-for-women-employees-in-Karnataka-State-govt/articleshow/22592136.cms

Articles like this beat the s**t out of me on a cosy sunday morning! No designer blouses, jeans for govt staff?!
Government is telling its employees how to dress, talk, eat, shit and what not! Coming to office in Jeans and T-shirt gives an impression of not being serious is the ideal thought of a gentleman and other one is advising his female colleague to follow a dress code for the fear of being accused of sexual harassment!

WTF??????!

Though this not the first time I have come across such kind of sincere advice. Almost a week back my friend at a reputed media house received a mail from her HR asking all the employees to refrain from wearing jeans and dress only in smart business casuals! can anyone please explain me how the humble jeans causes any kind of nuisance at work place?!

I hate this kind of Talibanism and mentality of the society nowadays! somehow I feel it is happening more after the delhi rape case.everyone thinks its their utmost duty to safeguard every woman and these outrageous ideas keep cropping every now and then! we talk about changing our society and making it a better place for women? its is suffocating with each passing day! I am sure you are also facing the same problem.I feel sad about those colleges students who are traumatized to wear socks or a particular kind or kurta without slit or sit separately in the classroom! nobody will go on a fucking spree in a classroom or on the road if they see a girl wearing jeans and may be a belly!

India is changing indeed! from a secular democracy to Taliban!
Good going!

India ashamed!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/India-a-travelers-heaven-a-womans-hell-American-student/articleshow/21972494.cms?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=referral

I read this article few days back and being an Indian I was ashamed! nobody likes when an outsider points finger at you or your family and off course country! it hurts our patriotic sentiments. how can a foreigner bitch about our glorified nation!
But if you read the article carefully, what ever she wrote, didn't it happened to you also in your lifetime?! you won't be able to say NO! you also have been victim of all the abuses and molestation she mentions in her article. As I quote her, "For three months I lived this way, in a travelers' heaven and a woman's hell. I was stalked, groped, masturbated at; and yet I had adventures beyond my imagination. I hoped that my nightmare would end at the tarmac, but that was just the beginning."

She faced the trauma for 3 months and went back, but what about thousand of us, we undergo torture on a daily basis? does anybody cares? government? who's that?! I was reading the article and was thinking "Damm this has happened to me too" and I am sure you also had the same feeling! but what happens next? you tell you folks, they ask you to be careful or more, buy pepper spray for you! it nowhere solves the problem dude! our society and us are at large to blame! we are the inventors of the world famous "Chalta hai" attitude! we wear it on our shoulders! ladki "maal" dikh rahi hai, sexy legs hain, line marna to banta hai boss! this is not the attitude of tennage boys, I even have meet those asshole uncles whispering in my ears in the public transport bus "I want to kiss you"! budha kahin ka!

Michela Cross is terrified by the stalking, gropping and masturbating at, I have lost the count when and where it happened to me! buses, malls, parks, my house lane, super market, it happened everywhere!wearing short skirt and drinking makes a woman bitch in our country and she is bound to get raped! if a guy is stalking and caught eve teasing the girl is supposed to sit at home and save her modesty, and the guy?! he would be "gloriously stalking his next victim".

How often rape cases are not reported in police station just because family ka name kharab hoga? the rapist will be happily roaming at large!A girl has the responsibility of outraging a man's testosterone levels! Take it and hate it, our society treat women as a piece of meat, the pleasure bunny to satisfy a man's need! and we don't teach our boys "Respect a woman"! no we don't do that! instead we largely believe in ladka ghar ka chirag hai, beta to kisi aur ke ghar ki amanat hai theory! bullshit!

You don't agree with my bitching of our wonderful society?! haven't you heard the well balanced quotes and speeches by our learned politicians! Take a look! and if you wanna entertain yourself with outrages remarks and the stupidity of our politicians, Google out or watch News hour with Arnab goswami(the episode with president's son!)

http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/NewDelhi/Most-outrageous-remarks-on-rape/Article1-986108.aspx
The legal status of our country is so fantastic that even after having all the legal proofs in the Nirbhaya case, justice is yet to be delivered. The national stalking helpline says call us only on weekdays timings 09.30 am-16.00pm. Why people don’t get stalked after that?!

I always wonder, will there be any day free of crime against women?

I seriously doubt!

A LETTER FROM A GIRL TO JRD TATA IN 1974

Good morning!

Read this article on net yesterday….felt its worth sharing!

THE GIRL WRITING AS HERSELF....

It was probably the April of 1974. Bangalore was getting warm and gulmohars were blooming at the IISc campus. I was the only girl in my postgraduate department and was staying at the ladies' hostel. Other girls were pursuing research in different departments of Science.

I was looking forward to going abroad to complete a doctorate in computer science. I had been offered scholarships from Universities in the US... I had not thought of taking up a job in India.

One day, while on the way to my hostel from our lecture-hall complex, I saw an advertisement on the notice board. It was a standard job-requirement notice from the famous automobile company Telco (now Tata Motors)... It stated that the company required young, bright engineers, hardworking and with an excellent academic background, etc.

At the bottom was a small line: 'Lady Candidates need not apply.'

I read it and was very upset. For the first time in my life I was up against gender discrimination.

Though I was not keen on taking up the job, I saw it as a challenge. I had done extremely well in academics, better than most of my male peers...
Little did I know then that in real life academic excellence is not enough to be successful?

After reading the notice I went fuming to my room. I decided to inform the topmost person in Telco's management about the injustice the company was perpetrating. I got a postcard and started to write, but there was a problem: I did not know who headed Telco

I thought it must be one of the Tatas. I knew JRD Tata was the head of the Tata Group; I had seen his pictures in newspapers (actually, Sumant Moolgaokar was the company's chairman then) I took the card, addressed it to JRD and started writing. To this day I remember clearly what I wrote.

'The great Tatas have always been pioneers. They are the people who started the basic infrastructure industries in India, such as iron and steel, chemicals, textiles and locomotives they have cared for higher education in India since 1900 and they were responsible for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Science. Fortunately, I study there. But I am surprised how a company such as Telco is discriminating on the basis of gender.'

I posted the letter and forgot about it. Less than 10 days later, I received a telegram stating that I had to appear for an interview at Telco's Pune facility at the company's expense. I was taken aback by the telegram. My hostel mate told me I should use the opportunity to go to Pune free of cost and buy them the famous Pune saris for cheap! I collected Rs30 each from everyone who wanted a sari when I look back, I feel like laughing at the reasons for my going, but back then they seemed good enough to make the trip.

It was my first visit to Pune and I immediately fell in love with the city.

To this day it remains dear to me. I feel as much at home in Pune as I do in Hubli, my hometown. The place changed my life in so many ways. As directed, I went to Telco's Pimpri office for the interview.

There were six people on the panel and I realized then that this was serious business.

'This is the girl who wrote to JRD,' I heard somebody whisper as soon as I entered the room. By then I knew for sure that I would not get the job. The realization abolished all fear from my mind, so I was rather cool while the interview was being conducted.

Even before the interview started, I reckoned the panel was biased, so I told them, rather impolitely, 'I hope this is only a technical interview.'

They were taken aback by my rudeness, and even today I am ashamed about my attitude.
The panel asked me technical questions and I answered all of them.

Then an elderly gentleman with an affectionate voice told me, 'Do you know why we said lady candidates need not apply? The reason is that we have never employed any ladies on the shop floor. This is not a co-ed college; this is a factory. When it comes to academics, you are a first ranker throughout. We appreciate that, but people like you should work in research laboratories.

I was a young girl from small-town Hubli. My world had been a limited place.

I did not know the ways of large corporate houses and their difficulties, so I answered, 'But you must start somewhere, otherwise no woman will ever be able to work in your factories.'

Finally, after a long interview, I was told I had been successful. So this was what the future had in store for me. Never had I thought I would take up a job in Pune. I met a shy young man from Karnataka there, we became good friends and we got married.

It was only after joining Telco that I realized who JRD was: the uncrowned king of Indian industry. Now I was scared, but I did not get to meet him till I was transferred to Bombay. One day I had to show some reports to Mr Moolgaokar, our chairman, who we all knew as SM. I was in his office on the first floor of Bombay House (the Tata headquarters) when, suddenly JRD walked in. That was the first time I saw 'appro JRD'. Appro means 'our' in Gujarati. This was the affectionate term by which people at Bombay House called him.

I was feeling very nervous, remembering my postcard episode. SM introduced me nicely, 'Jeh (that's what his close associates called him), this young woman is an engineer and that too a postgraduate.

She is the first woman to work on the Telco shop floor.' JRD looked at me. I was praying he would not ask me any questions about my interview (or the postcard that preceded it).

Thankfully, he didn't. Instead, he remarked. 'It is nice that girls are getting into engineering in our country. By the way, what is your name?'

'When I joined Telco I was Sudha Kulkarni, Sir,' I replied. 'Now I am Sudha Murthy.' He smiled and kindly smile and started a discussion with SM. As for me, I almost ran out of the room.

After that I used to see JRD on and off. He was the Tata Group chairman and I was merely an engineer. There was nothing that we had in common. I was in awe of him.

One day I was waiting for Murthy, my husband, to pick me up after office hours. To my surprise I saw JRD standing next to me. I did not know how to react. Yet again I started worrying about that postcard. Looking back, I realize JRD had forgotten about it. It must have been a small incident for him, but not so for me.

'Young lady, why are you here?' he asked. 'Office time is over.' I said, 'Sir, I'm waiting for my husband to come and pick me up.' JRD said, 'It is getting dark and there's no one in the corridor.

I'll wait with you till your husband comes.'

I was quite used to waiting for Murthy, but having JRD waiting alongside made me extremely uncomfortable.

I was nervous. Out of the corner of my eye I looked at him. He wore a simple white pant and shirt. He was old, yet his face was glowing. There wasn't any air of superiority about him. I was thinking, 'Look at this person. He is a chairman, a well-respected man in our country and he is waiting for the sake of an ordinary employee.'

Then I saw Murthy and I rushed out. JRD called and said, 'Young lady, tell your husband never to make his wife wait again.' In 1982 I had to resign from my job at Telco. I was reluctant to go, but I really did not have a choice. I was coming down the steps of Bombay House after wrapping up my final settlement when I saw JRD coming up. He was absorbed in thought. I wanted to say goodbye to him, so I stopped. He saw me and paused.

Gently, he said, 'So what are you doing, Mrs. Kulkarni?' (That was the way he always addressed me.) 'Sir, I am leaving Telco.'

'Where are you going?' he asked. 'Pune, Sir. My husband is starting a company called Infosys and I'm shifting to Pune.'

'Oh! And what will you do when you are successful.'

'Sir, I don't know whether we will be successful.' 'Never start with diffidence,' he advised me 'Always start with confidence. When you are successful you must give back to society. Society gives us so much; we must reciprocate. Wish you all the best.'

Then JRD continued walking up the stairs. I stood there for what seemed like a millennium. That was the last time I saw him alive.

Many years later I met Ratan Tata in the same Bombay House, occupying the chair JRD once did. I told him of my many sweet memories of working with Telco. Later, he wrote to me, 'It was nice hearing about Jeh from you.
The sad part is that he's not alive to see you today.'

I consider JRD a great man because, despite being an extremely busy person, he valued one postcard written by a young girl seeking justice. He must have received thousands of letters everyday. He could have thrown mine away, but he didn't do that. He respected the intentions of that unknown girl, who had neither influence nor money, and gave her an opportunity in his company. He did not merely give her a job; he changed her life and mindset forever.

Close to 50 per cent of the students in today's engineering colleges are girls. And there are women on the shop floor in many industry segments. I see these changes and I think of JRD. If at all time stops and asks me what I want from life, I would say I wish JRD were alive today to see how the company we started has grown. He would have enjoyed it wholeheartedly.

My love and respect for the House of Tata remains undiminished by the passage of time. I always looked up to JRD. I saw him as a role model for his simplicity, his generosity, his kindness and the care he took of his employees. Those blue eyes always reminded me of the sky; they had the same vastness and magnificence.
(Sudha Murthy is a widely published writer and chairperson of the Infosys Foundation involved in a number of social development initiatives. Infosys chairman Narayana Murthy is her husband.)

Rain rain,
Thank you for coming again,
The city looks so beautiful,
The scenery are so wonderful,
Love those kids playing with water,
I feel like jumping and splashing and shower,
Mommy will scream and shout,
But who cares, let her find us out,
Love those droplets falling on me,
Fighting, screaming and playing with me,
I wait for you everyday,
Drench me, kiss me and take my breath away,
It's a long way before I reach home,
Dear rain, play with me, all over again!!

Mad Mad ad world!

Hi everyone!

Wassup?!

today blog is dedicated to the mad mad advertisement world...they preach you anything and everything! As if every single customer buying or at least seeing their advertisement is deaf, dumb, lunatic and what not!!

I was bored with work, logged on to youtube to listen to some songs..but this ghost of Fortune rice bran oil swears not to let us live in peace. the amount of marketing budget they have, bill gates will be ashamed, he does not have that much money in his Swiss account!  this oil is everywhere!...tv,  radio, internet, facebook aur pata nai kaha kaha! I have got rice bran phobia!

Few off the idiotic advertisement campaign I have seen over a period of time,

 Bournvita, Horlicks,Complan:

All these three brands(what I recall) have some point or the other promised to all  Indian mothers that there drink increases the height of kids and improves that memory power. Now, this is the best example of false advertising, bcoz, the amount of all these bottles I have drowned, My height would have been 6'5 feet, where as I am 5'2....huh!
And the memory part, ha ha!! I will easily get entry in Guinness book of world records for forgetting everything right before entering exam hall!

21st century diet:

Ye mazedar hai!...market mein jahan dekho, sugar free, fat free, cholesterol free aur pata nai kya kya diet fads milenge aapko! the bipasha basu advertisement, biscuit ke naam pe maida kha rahe ho! and she says" eat macvitive digestive biscuit, maida free, banao aapko wafer thin slim"!!...burp!
Did anyone bother to turn the packet and have a close look at the amount of transfat it has?..the worst fat which never goes from your body is found on all these sugar free, fat free and blah blah products!
Bipasha also says, purani jeans mein fit hone hai to drink real fruit juice!..I got impressed...purani jeans mein fit hona tha...super market se utha ke le aayi...first sip liya...it was too sweet!..I thought itna mitha peeke kuan patla hoga?...packet turn karke dekha to small letters mein warning thi "does not contain any real fruit but tonnes of sugar? definitely!
The next moment, real fruit juice was inside the dustbin!

Aur ye chote chote bache aake aapko ye kao to vo kaho bolte hai na, mar karta hai ek thappad laga ke bolo, beta pehle bolna sikho sahi tarike se phir sikhana kya khana hai kya nai!...mommy aap ye toothpaste kyun use karte ho?...issme aunty nai hai na?( aunty mane antigen, didn't knew you eat antigen also!) aur to aur chai mein antifibroids!...errrr?!!!!!
cholestrol minus butter parathe pe lagao, maje se khao(nutrelite butter)...ek barr try kiya..it taste like ur eating raw oil sprinkled with paratha!

In all this ghooch ppooch to get slim and become healthy we forgot our humble dal chawl, paratha, idli, dhokla etc etc!

wo din duur nahi jab market mein fat free chicken, fish and egg milne lagega! fat free rice is already there!..tagline?!...bina exercise, khao daily rice!(hainji!)...google karke check kar lo!

Fairness Cream.

This saga is endless, I mean, every other skin care advertisement is about transforming your skin color from black to firangi white...kaise?...matlab koi mujhe samjhao!...aisa chamatkar kaise karte hai ye brand wale? fooling those poor people.
I still remember one of the childhood incident, when I went to my nani maa place, there was this care taker at home, one day while talking, mommy entered his room and saw a fair and lovely cream packet kept with utmost care along bedside(this was before fair and handsome for men was launched), mommy couldn't resist asking, do you use fair and lovely manoj? why? this is a women cream!
for which manoj asnwered, janta hun didi...ladkiyon ki cream hai...par mujhe dekho....kitna kala hun....thoda gora nai hua to mujhe sundar ladki kaise milegi!!
Mommy was dumbstuck...she didnt had any answer!..hope he got a pretty girl who does bother of his looks!
Recently my friend uploaded an image of times of India masterhead(Hyderabad edition),fairness cream for babies! I could not stop laughing!...bechare bache, abhi to paida hua, chalna sikhna nai, unko achi malishh karne ke bajae, fair and lovely se dhoo daloo!!

And the most outrageous one, fairness cream for inner parts!...whatt?....yes jaani!
Last IPL, I was in Chennai  it was a crucial match, CSK v/s RCB( though csk and rcb match is always crucial!), me being the only RCB loyal supporter, we were these 40+ people in the gym, everyone stopped working out and was glued to the TV as it was the last two overs, advertisement break happened, and guess what, there was this advertisement for fairness cream for inner parts...wtf??
there was a 10 second silence among the crowd, nobody said anything but everyone was visibly embarrassed!
the next thing I remembered was huge public outburst of this advertisement in all national dailies and eventually the advt was taken off!

But I am sure, they did get some customers!...kyun?....arre...The great Indian gora addiction!

Ye blog kyun likha meine?!....mujhe faltu advts ki leene mein bada maja aata hai!

Hehehe!!

The curious case of house hunting!

Hi Bloggie!

Didn't write for so long...was busy...doing what?!.."House Hunting"!

Yes, was planning to vacant my current house...becoz my owner is an &*^@#$%...and the problem we are facing?! I cannot write them at this public forum, had a nasty fight with him last week as he was not paying any heed to our problems...it was enough.

So, the house hunting begins...little did we knew what's lying ahead of us.

We tried to hunt the area on our own looking for 1 BHK TO-LET board! sun decided to be kind enough and showered all his love on us...the heat was unbearable  we some how manage to roam the entire area with juice and coke breaks in between..1 bhk house chirag leke dhundho ge to bhi nai milega!

Tired, dejected, we came back, opened justdial and ringed all the brokers in the area...the answers were expected...Maddamm, therr iss noo 1 BHK available ein thess aerra!

we were not the one to lose hope so soon! we kept the hunt on and here are few observations made on the behavior of all those owners.

1. Family means papa, mummy and one bacha; two sisters staying together is not a family(my case), and yes, husband and wife staying together are couple and not to be mistaken as a family.

2. You should not have any friends, people coming to your house, specially guys, bestows you with the cult status of "SLUT".

3.  They want contact number of your entire "khandhan", and ya your previous owner as if the word "Terrorist" is plastered on our puppy face.

4. Out of the average 10 owners I met, 8 had this animated line "We want strictly vegetarians tenants"(Oops!..I am hardcore non veg and don't even know the correct spelling of vegetarian, in case of this blog, google ji-kisses!)..I would have digested this line..as in ok, your house your rules, fine!
but the reasoning  for vegetarians tenants is, our neighbors are all doctors, CAs, Lawyers, and we don't want bad name among them-as if neighbors don't have any better work other than checking what's inside my dustbin!

The climax of our hunt was the "would-be-owner-we-met" yesterday afternoon, an old guy, had this beautiful house under construction  as in the finishing stages, we loved it so much that we even dreamed the interiors of every room; the guy asked us to come in the evening to discuss the rent and contract. In the evening, we were  singing" jhumping jhapang jhumpak jhumpak, thumping thapank thampak thampak, gili gili chu" ( eyye, IPL theme song) dancing like farah khan we reached " our-soon-to be-house, the would-be-owner asked us to take our seat,

We waited for 10 min, 15 min, 20 min, he is not saying anything, curiously I said, Sir, can we discuss the contract now? Maa, wait, my entire family is coming to meet you! he said...errr what?!...why?!
I exclaimed "Entire family"! ...for which his answer was, Maa they want to see what kind of girl is taking the house!( what kind??). Me and my sister stared each other dresses and started fearing for the worst.

The family arrived, grandma, grandpa, mummy, two sons, daughter in law, daughter and her husband, kids and driver...phew!

Interrogation starts!
Q. Young lady, whats your full name?
A. sir, roli and neha yadav.
Q. Papa and Mummy name ?
A. S.N.S.Yadav and late R.Yadav.
Q. Your mother is no more? How come?
A. (haaa!!!) is this a question to be asked?!
Q. What is your caste maa?
A. (my eyebrow raised) Iam yadav sir!
Q. oho acha! what's your gotra?
A. (Wondering, what that has to do with house contract) I dono sir!
Q. You dono your gotra??!!( I got scared, for a second,he resembled dakuu mangal singh) are you non vegetarian?
A. Yes sir.(tangdi kabab ke bina bache ki jaan loge kya?!)
Q. look we are looking for pakka  VEGETARIAN(he sounded like gabbar singh with a riffle...seriously!) Do you drink Alcohol or smoke?!
A. Nooo sir!(My eye balls came out and I remember neha scratching my hand)
Q. Do you and your sister have boyfriend? how many?
A. I chuckled No sir...we don't have ANY BF( I saw him smiling with a sense of relief?!...as if every body standing outside your house, sleeps wid you!)
Q. Do you have music system? you are not supposed to play loud music.
Q. Look, young lady, we want someone who is a family person, who is vegetarian and off course does not drink!( boyfriend, are you kidding me, he will die!)
A. Sister for the first time murmured "Yes sir"...I was too shocked to react!
Q. And yes, did I mention, the advance will be Rs. 200000!!
A. My mouth open in shock(watt?!) bhai saheb, you want me to pay you this hefty amount to stay in a jail? I would rather murder someone and stay for free.
Q. Are you ok with these terms you lady?
A. Ummmm sir, we will see....(my sister whispered, di, bhagoo jaldi! matlab jaldi!)

We told him sir we will cal you by 9 pm and switched off our phones and did "bhag bhag DK bose, DK bose, bhag bhag DK bose bhag"!...when we  switched on our respective phones, each one of us had 20 something missed calls!

We sincerely pray that he gets tenant according to his "choice", in a students area!

No bf/gf, vegetarian, no music, knows his caste, creed, color, religion and region!

basically who is a "bore"!

Mein aur choti uss khubshurat ghar mein?...pagal ho kya??..ab to free mein bhi doge to bhi bhag jaenge!

bhagwan bachaye uss ghar ke tenants ko!

Happy holi by roli!

Deviyon aur devo!

Wishing you a very happy and prosperous holi!

Yaar Bangalore mein festival wali feel nai aa rahi hai iss baar!...I think the only city in India to work even on holi is bangalore...kamine papi log!bechare bache!..sabki jaan lenge ye office wale!

Its still better than Chennai ...last year, I had the was the worst holi of my lifetime...aadhi janta ko holi ke bare mein pata hi nai chala....aur jaise hi meine colours ke packet nikala aapne purse se...there was a mini stampede...sare jake toilet mein chup gaye jaise ki koi bhoot aaya ho! "aiyyooo roli!..what are you doing maa?! aiyoooo!!(phurrrrr and hide in men room!...phattuu!) I hardly managed to splash color on few people and was truly depressed, until my friend Rini organised a chotu holi party at Ayon's house with all possible colors and bhang you could ever find in Chennai! finally we had some festive fun!

childhood holi was amazing!...we used to wait for the festival anxiously unless board exams come in and played the perfect role of being a spoilt sport. mommy used to start her holi preparation a week in advance and will start preparing all possible dishes she knew!(she hates buying sweets or anything from outside as it will be a kalank on her excellent cooking skills)...papa dearie used to have tough time..ye color cahiye to vo color cahiye...bechare paresan ho jate bazaar jate jate! frustrated he will take any one us and let us decide the specific color we want and the pickari! how can I forget!..my special target used to be the creatures I hate the most or who try to run away from playing holi! aage aage Mr. or Mrs. XYZ, piche piche hum bachoon ki toli! bucket mein pani bhar bhar ke sabko unki nani yaad dilane mein bada mazza aata tha! har ek ke ghar jate the aur rang lagene ke bahane chilla te the...aunty mithai mein kya kya banaya aapne?! aur thoso jitna thoss sakte ho! hum bache phir bhi sudre hua tha...hamare papa log ko abir ya pickari se khelne mein sharam aati thi....they used to play with the worst kachara possible and Mobil used to be the main ingredient! and mummy logon ki toli...unka to range hi nirala tha....gobar aur kichar se..AP mein iss samay barish kafi hoti hai....to kichar is available in abundant quantity...gobar?!...ye bharat desh hai janni!....he he!

college ki holi ka to koi jawaab nahi! ek din pehle se hi shuru ho jate tha! raat ko haar kisi ke room mein jake ke jabardasti rang laga ka mazza hi kuch aalag tha...kuch ladkiyan thi jo skin kharaab ho jane ke daar se pati nahi kaha chup jati thi....sabko pakad pakad ke rang lagao....thode time tak sharafat se khelte the phir kache andee, kichaad dustbin ka kachda aur kya nahi...uff! warden haalla karte reh jati thi...go outside and play par sunta kuan tha....ulta hostel ke pani ke tank ki maa behen!
guys used to have lots of fun...ladkiyon ko rang lagane ke liye joo bhagte the...pucho maat!

Meri bakwaas kyun padh raho ho murakkh!....jao holi khelo!

Happy holi to you once again!

anti rape law.....errr what?!

Hi bloggie!
my blog of today is inspired by this chetan bhagat's column, the link is here, and I cant agree more,
http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/The-underage-optimist/entry/let-s-talk-about-sex.

After reading the blog, I realized that I am yet to go through the recently passed anti rape law, sitting alone in my office and reading the newspaper, I cant stop smiling at the apathy of our judiciary system, they call as the tough anti rape law, I call it as "comedy law". the best part was government fear to lower down the age of consent for sex at 18 years.

I have few questions,
a) does anyone ask government before having sex?
b) do so called small Indian kids below 18 years don't know about sex?
c) does a 16 year old or 17 year can't rape?
d) why are we so skeptical about "sex"?

Does any one ask government before "thinking" about sex or bother what's there age?!...bullshit!
before this particular clause was hyped I bet 70% of Indians weren't aware that a law of consent of sex ever existed!

an average girl or a guy reaches puberty at the age of 14-15 years, instead of teaching them about there body, we refrain them of any information as SEX is taboo! talking about sex is baad! who will guarantee that these kids do not browse porn online or don't have porn videos in their phone? the curiosity always urges people to find a way out...simple rule.
I remember my school days.. 12 biology, we had these two chapters which dealt with human sexual behavior or in clear words sex! it was the first ever bio class which had 100 % attendance. everyone was curious of topic of the day..girls were shy, tugged their head down(but in full attendance ha!), face red with embarrassment and the guys had the best time. the questions they had or their knowledge on the subject, i have no words! and the best part, my teacher finished those two chapters in a day! you can imagine what he actually taught us.

a child under 18 years of age can't rape?! well Delhi gang rape is the proof, dont have anything else to say.

there is so much debate going around, eating the empty head of our dumbhead politician, to introduce SEX EDUCATION in our school curriculum? I support that SE should be introduced in school, what is wrong in teaching our kids about good and bad touch? teach them of the changes happening in their body when they attain puberty? my ramaiah hotel rommates will agree with me,there were actually one girl who thought a man's touch can make her pregnant!...like the famous salman-aishwarya scene from hum dil de chuke sanam! epic it was! why can't we teach kids what's happening to them, better them and empower them to take there own decisions.

Wearing long skirt or banning lipstick or opening women banks won't reduce the rape cases or child abuse...educating them definitely does.

chai!

Ek garam chai ki pyali ho,
koi usko pilani wali ho,
cahe gori ho ya kali ho,
sine se lagane wali ho!

Above cheesy lines are copied from some hindi movie song...i think salman khan movie...describing the essence of the humble chai(in a sexy way though)! my life is incomplete without them trust me! so many health dikkat or diet gyan keep coming on tv, drink this tea, that tea or the best, "green tea" but nothing beats the refreshment and calmness of adrak wali chai!I need my dose of "adrak wali chai" or the compensation "elachi wali chai"...just love them as my brain refuse to function unless I have my morning cuppa of tea.

The roadside chai and bakery "BISSCUIT" are my all time favorites...sounds old fashioned and downmarket...ki farak painda hai! I actually have these favorites places on my travel itinerary and  never miss any opportunity to grab my cutting chai. like this place when I go home, the overnight bus stops at this place in dibrugarh, the early morning assam tea refreshes me like anything. My ex-colleagues in The Hindu must agree with the taste of that chotu tea stall right outside the gate and the biscuit he serves with them...DIVINE! hygiene ki maa behan though, but who cares!

As my friend tanuja reminds me of the kulhad wali chai, which you get in northern india, or thanks to lalu ji sometimes even in Indian railways, the taste is just exotic with that earthy-earthy smell!

What you thinking, go grab your cuppa of tea!

Rain!

You say you LOVE rain,
but you open your umbrella,
you say you LOVE the sun,
but you find a shadow spot,
you say you LOVE the winds,
but you close the windows,
this is why I am afraid,
you say that you LOVE me too.
                                       William Shakespeare.

Hello there!

Just came back from work, was a tiring and hectic day, lying on my bed and my cuppa of coffee on the table next to me, vanessa carlton thousand miles playing loud in my room...switched off the light and lying down wanna take a little nap! alas!...its terribly hot! like really really hot! I turned the fan to its maximum speed while the thought running in my mind "Shall I buy an AC?!...in Bangalore"! the words sounds like murder to the world famous Bangalore weather!

It didn't rain for last FOUR months!

My time machine takes me back to my childhood(again, yes!) born and brought up in Arunachal Pradesh, where the weather was beautiful as you could imagine. but I HATED it! months used to pass by, without sunrise a single day and heavy rainfall 24x7! Mommy dear had hard time getting our school uniform dried and I remember her running with clothes the moment she spotted that one ray of sunlight. god was sitting up there and waiting, the moment Roli is out, lets get her drenched! every single time without fail and the day I forget the umbrella, DEAD!

Though I hated getting drenched in rain, I always loved the sound of rain, and falling asleep after being cuddled in my velvet red blanket..it used to be so cosy! or make garam garam pakkodas, ginger tea and sit in the balcony watching kids splashing water on each other, dancing, sneezing and laughing at you!

Bangalorean know this strange fact about the city, it starts somewhere in May end, the city will be super sunny in mornings, all of sudden at 3 pm you can see cloud all around, and after 4.30 "RAIN"!
it used to be the time when our classes get over and that chaat guy right outside the college gate!....voila! me and swasti never missed the aloo tikki chaat and those rain trinklets! took an auto, back home and I am inside my blanket...time for my cosy nap while its raining outside!

OK Mr. Rain, too much of buttering now!...ab to aa jao yaar!!!

college wala Mess!

college mess?!..ha?! you must be wondering what is wrong with me and why I am writing about them. We had our graduation alumni meet yesterday(M S Ramaiah college precisely) and as I entered the college and the foodie in me barked out loud "What happened to our small garage canteen which was of the size of match box, where we used to have our breakfast of masala dosa between lab breaks, tomato rice in lunch and were serviced fungus enriched idly at times! nothing great taste wise but it was nostalgic to see the canteen yesterday.
Memories I saayy!!

I stay in the same college area even today and lemme tell you there are too many mess than my college days with equally funny names, "Bhabhi mess, Kusum mess, Paratha bhaiya, oriya mess, kolkata mess, kerela mess, bachu mess, north Indian mess"...list is very long...phew!

And how dare I forgot?!...our one and only "window mess"!....:-)
OK, our window mess was one and only mess which gives us the access to get food without us bothering how we look! arre,  it was pharmacy dept. canteen and its window was facing our hostel and guess what, one of the window pan was broken, so we used to walk to the canteen in our room shorts, mess up hair and off course all those yawns, make a puppy face to the grumpy receptionist and ask him to pass us the food! and if sweets are missing, one more barbie face! he must be cursing us!..:-D

And that anapurna mess, where the food was fairly ok  until we found cockroach in our "vegetable fried rice"! eekks! never stepped in the canteen again!
The mouth watering spicy chicken of Oriya and north Indian mess and fish of kolkata mess are just yummy!
Every hostel block had these small mess or say shops where we used to get our endless cuppa of coffee and tea and those samosas and cup noddles! our gossip sessions were  incomplete without them and they were blessing in disguise for we poor "girlies"! and if it rains "Masa allah"!

I wish there were time machine!..would love to go back to my good o'l college days and eat at those college wala mess!

21st century love!

Tia is eating pizza...crown pizza precisely...have seen lot of advertisements about the same, felt like trying it today..all thanks to Bangalore weather, is back to what it used to be! gloomy, windy, romantic! the slices remind her of him...he loved them, the only thing as remotely as fast food he liked was pizza! it is almost going to be two months she didn't spoke to him, someone who meant her to be the world sometime back.

Tia never understood MEN and LOVE.

To her, love as someone said, is beyond any boundaries, nationality, caste and uff "what not"(and yes money in today's world)! all those Shakespeare books and stories she grew up reading, made her believe that true love is eternal and blissful!
Little did she realize, its 21st century already baby! the rules are changed, and now its more of a game of countless calculations. the one who displays emotion first, gets treated like a dog and a collar.
Money, "oh yes" is very important, the gifts, flowers, chocolates, shopping etc.  can make or break a relationship. Valentines day is the perfect time, when a smart businessman becomes crorepati and as they say celebrating this day without gifts is equal to committing a horrendous crime! Poor men and their pocket!

Men, on the other hand, are equally complicated! why cant they have the guts to open there mouth! its nothing remotely manly in playing with the emotion of a girl, you like them, say yes, you don't say no! simple.
Why cant you express yourself?! why does it takes almost a century for you to decide what you actually want and then take a 360 degree turn? you like fooling around with a girl and then freeze in your pants in the name of "LOVE". why cant you be honest to yourself and the other person?! it saves you from a major mess! and the best excuse "My parents will not agree with my choice"!
Full stop!

Amiss all this hopahoop, Tia just realize  the pizza is yummy and delicious! something she never tried before, is going to make herself a cup of coffee and is back to her new job, as an interior designer, and the guy whose house she designing next, is drop dead gorgeous! glee glee!! she is picking up the pieces again, is getting back to normal, trying to breathe in the new life and yes, she still believe that there is some idiot, somewhere made for her, who proves her wrong! and the Shakespeare "ian" theory right!

Sigh!!

Just a dream!

"DARE to dream, DARE to fly, DARE to be the chosen one to touch the sky"!

Exactly a year back, i dared, to quit my job, yes, I decided to quit The Hindu...was not happy with my life, had no idea what to do next..had read somewhere, "Decide and then THINK"!

I did the same.

My friends were shell shocked "Are you mad! you are quitting "THE HINDU", do you realize what you are doing?!I didn't knew whether it was right or wrong!..i don't  know even today!..the only thing i know is if you are not happy or satisfied with what you are doing!..chuck it!..change your life!..you need to take that first step..no body else will do it for you!..you don't have to be like everyone else!...my decision was taken as a immature and impatient decision by an unsatisfied youngster!..people even thought that I am just lying, moving back to Bangalore and joining times of India ..closed my ears and let people talk what they wanted!

After a little technical delay, Streetseven.com will be operational from tomorrow morning, and tonight while writing this blog, I feel a sense of achievement..chota muuh, badi baat!..but yes, I do feel proud of myself!..not to show the world, but to myself.."kuch to life ka kar sakti hun aapne dam pe"! didn't had a single penny in my pocket then....the situation is even worse today!

Got the courage yesterday..will be taking baby steps from tomorrow..i don't know if I will succeed or fail..but someone had said.."proud past, happy today and a hopeful tomorrow"!..IS THE MANTRA!

Amen!!

if there is will, there is way!

I have always heard the above lines in books, classes, lectures and what not!...never took it seriously though...unless the situation become nerve wreaking for me.
Iam a 25 year old girl...aimless as ever...was an average student, love to sit in the last bench and stare at teacher mustaches, used to wonder why they touch themselves so shamelessly in front of students...studied science in plus 2 when i actually loved political science, did biotechnology, "god only knows why",  took a year break to decide what should I study next, continue playing  with microorganisms(M.sc) or wear formals and learn how to be diplomatic(MBA)....zeroed on MBA as the world says it is shortcut to money or job...got placed and joined The Hindu without discussing the salary...had no answer what is my take home unless I received my first salary...should have smelt the rat long time back...but NO!...smarty me!...my job profile was advertising...if you don't know what that means,  you see all those lifestyle or westside advertisements in the newspaper, revenue comes from  people who advertise, so that company's kuber ka khazana is fulled and everyone gets there salary on time!

My job was boring and pretty monotonous!...come to the same old boring office, getting some advertisements, being the prey of those boobies oogling frustrating monsters(who once said I am like his sister, son of a bitch!), that sucker who said once Roli, you  have nice, smooth lips!(my friends call me "good quality lips" till date!), taking  auto and coming back home!(chennai aauto guys charge horrendous amount even to move their ass!) life was extremely boring and sad!...forgot to mention...not even a single remotely cute guy!...every one was of my dad age and i was treated like a spoon feeding baby!

As a result my soul was getting frustrated every passing day!...The only thing in my mind was "i don't need this job"...its hell boring...never understand the concept of selling advertisement for the rest of my life without getting any appraisal or promotion(till i left hindu, this was the case, seriously!)
one strange morning, my stomach started aching, waking me up from my sleep...took some medicine...was trying to sleep again..but "nini" was far away from my eyes..when you are sick your nose becomes extremely finicky, as I getting that fishy beach smell...yes!...i took an Aatoo and rushed to the beach...at 6.30 in the morning...midnight according to my standard though!
The calmness of the beach hit me...WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?!...this is not me!...i don't love my life right now...its irritating!...boring!...and draining! I wanna get out of this hell....but how?! and when?..shall I quit?..really shall I do that?!....will I be seen as an impatient youngster?!..or shall I listen to my inner call?!...chuck the world and do what I love!....but what I actually love?!...I donno!

You must be wondering what this crap written all above!....why is this girl so confused!...yes I was!...but not now!....I decided to do something!....something which I love!...a bold decision..and if you still confused, I just wrote few lines of my book...my real life story...from a confused teenager to someone clear about what she wants...just started writing my the book today... a hidden desire...something which I wanted to do since ages... didn't knew what was stopping me all this days...read somewhere, DECIDE AND THEN THINK!... that's what I just did!...listened to my inner call.

And the title of the book??... off course, "IF THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY"!

stay tuned!
